Measures against spatter during laser welding

Introducing examples of measures taken against spatter during laser welding!

One of the advantages of pulse YAG laser welding is that it allows for welding with minimal heat impact due to high peak power and short pulses. However, if welding is performed with excessive energy, metal spatter, known as "spatter," can occur due to the compatibility of the metals, gap precision, and material properties. If the causes of spatter generation are understood, certain countermeasures can be implemented. Fundamentally, it is possible that the processing conditions are not appropriate at the time of occurrence. There are various parameters to consider, including the type of laser welding machine, emission unit, optical system of the optical fiber, setting conditions, and shielding gas. Here are some examples of measures taken against spatter. [Examples] - Setting conditions: Optimization of peak power and pulse width - Considering changes in shape, gap precision, and plating type on the workpiece side - Optimization of optical system specifications - Installation of air nozzles, assist gas, and air knives *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
